LaScala has changed ownership and has plummeted in quality and service. 4 of us booked for 8.30 on Saturday night, arrived (we knew it would be busy) and were seated at 8.15. Our order was taken at 8.30 (so far so good) and at 9.15 we had to ask if we could have our starter. Nothing much wrong with them and, at 10 we got our main courses. Spaghetti carbonara - tasteless, Lasagne - got left as it was aw'ful, Gnocchi - OK but bland. Didn't bother staying for dessert or coffee as we were so disappointed and getting rather angry. We asked for the bill, it didn't arrive and at 10.30 we gave up and I went to ask for it at the till, the guy there was adding up bills and gave me a dirty look and carried on. He eventually added up our bill so we could pay and get out of there. I paid - no 'thank you', no 'did you enjoy your meal' - in fact not a word, not even 'goodnight'. For the first time in my life I didn't even leave a tip. Absolutely ruined what was supposed to be a celebratory meal for my son leaving the Armed Forces. Definitely a night to forget and would never ever go there again.
WHAT a fantastic place to eat, the waiters all seem to be genuinely Italian and the food is to die for. You would have to book a week in advance really especially for a table at weekend but it is worth the wait. This is the kind of place you would go to for a birthday/celebration/special treat as it is a beautiful restaraunt! There is a conservatory at the back which is amazing. There is ample room to sit and wait before you are seated and get a drink from the bar. The deserts are the tastiest this side of Manchester and are presented in a huge glass tower for you to see as you walk into the restaraunt. Even if you weren't planning on having a desert, onced you walk passed there you will be! Fantastic place, book early, enjoy!
La scala is a great italian restaurant. The food is great espesically the peppercorn chicken or steak and the garlic bread with cheese is a must have. The staff are always friendly and work very hard. You will need to book if going on a weekend as its always very busy. The only downside is sometimes you have to ask for a minute between courses as the service can be extreamly quick. Although when its at its busiest this can slow it down.I would say all in all this is my favorite restaurant and I have never had a bad meal there.
